Your child should be completing about 10 minutes of work per grade level outside of school. That means third graders should have about 30 minutes of extra practice at home. I always suggest setting a timer, and when 30 minutes is up, it's time to stop.
Your child should be reading about 15 minutes every night. This year we will use MyOn to track students' reading each night for homework. Students are expected to log into MyOn each night and read for about 15 minutes. They can pick a book of their choice, or choose one from the Project Library I have assigned to them. Students need to keep track of their reading on their nightly reading chart, and return it to school each day.
In addition, your child should also be practicing their math facts for about 15 minutes nightly. To monitor progress with their math facts, we will be using FactMonster. Students need to keep track of their fact practice on their nightly fact practice chart, and return it to school each day.
